Day 1Arrival, Blue Lagoon & ReykjavíkKeflavík International Airport → Blue Lagoon → Reykjavík → The 5 Million Star Hotel
1
Transport

Keflavík International Airport (Arrival)

Arrive at Keflavík, collect your luggage, and pick up your rental car. No need to rush today — your first day is built around easing in, not racing across the country. Head out onto the Reykjanes peninsula to begin your adventure.

2
Attraction

Blue Lagoon

Wash off the flight fatigue with a relaxing geothermal soak — just 20 minutes from the airport. This is the perfect, flexible first stop to bridge the gap before your evening check-in without rushing your drive. Pre-book your entry time; luggage storage is available on site.

3
Attraction

Reykjavík (at your own pace)

Drive into the capital and let your arrival time set the pace. Wander the old harbour, take in Hallgrímskirkja, stroll down Laugavegur, and enjoy a long lunch or an early dinner. Landed late? Keep it short — or skip the city and head straight for the bubble. This stop is simply here to fill the hours before check-in, however many you have.

4
Bubble night · The 5 Million Star Hotel

The 5 Million Star Hotel

An easy hour's drive east brings you into the quiet South Iceland countryside and your home for the next two nights: a transparent bubble under open sky. This is your dark-sky aurora base — clear north horizon, almost no light pollution, and the northern lights visible right from your bed. Settle in, ask reception about the aurora wake-up call, and keep an eye on the forecast. If cloud drifts overhead, a few minutes into the surrounding Flói farmland usually opens up clearer sky. (Grab dinner or supplies in Selfoss on the way if you came straight from the Lagoon.)

Day 2The Golden Circle & Laugaras LagoonÞingvellir National Park → … → Buubble Hotel Iceland — Ölvisholt
5
Attraction

Þingvellir National Park

After a slow morning at the bubble, head into the Golden Circle. First stop is Þingvellir, the UNESCO-listed rift valley where you can walk in the gap between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates — the birthplace of Iceland's parliament and one of its most storied landscapes. (Optional quick stop on the drive up: the Kerið volcanic crater, right on Route 35.)

6
Attraction

Geysir Geothermal Area

Watch the earth put on a show at Geysir, where the Strokkur hot spring erupts every few minutes, firing a column of boiling water into the air. Steaming vents and bubbling pools fill the whole valley — the original "geyser" that gave the phenomenon its name.

7
Attraction

Gullfoss Waterfall

A short drive on brings you to Gullfoss, the "Golden Falls," where the glacial Hvítá river thunders down two tiers into a rugged canyon. One of Iceland's most powerful and photographed waterfalls — and the same river you'll be relaxing beside a little later.

8
Activity

Laugaras Lagoon

Cap the day with a soak at Laugarás Lagoon, a striking new geothermal spa on the banks of the Hvítá — the very river you saw at Gullfoss. Sink into the two-level lagoon with its cascading waterfall and infinity edge over the valley, alternate between the forest saunas and cold plunge, and grab a drink at the swim-up bar. Stay for dinner at the on-site Ylja restaurant (farm-to-table by chef Gísli Matt) before the short drive back to the bubble.

9
Accommodation

Buubble Hotel Iceland — Ölvisholt

Check in to your transparent bubble in the quiet countryside near Selfoss. The walls and ceiling are clear, so from your bed you look straight up at the open sky, and on clear nights, a chance of the northern lights.

Day 3The South Coast: Waterfalls & Black SandSeljalandsfoss Waterfall → Skogarfoss Waterfall → Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach → Hotel Ranga
10
Attraction

Seljalandsfoss Waterfall

Start your South Coast day at Seljalandsfoss, the waterfall you can walk right behind for a view out through the falling water. A few minutes' stroll along the cliff, the hidden Gljúfrabúi waterfall sits tucked inside a mossy canyon — easy to miss and worth finding. Bring a waterproof layer; you'll get misted.

11
Attraction

Skogarfoss Waterfall

A short drive east brings you to Skógafoss, a broad 60-metre curtain of water that throws up rainbows on brighter days. Climb the staircase beside it for the view from the top. Optional detours nearby: the Sólheimasandur DC-3 plane wreck out on the black sand, or the tongue of the Sólheimajökull glacier.

12
Attraction

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

13
Accommodation

Hotel Ranga

Drive about 90 minutes back west to Hótel Rangá, a country hotel on the banks of the Rangá river and one of Iceland's most famous spots for the northern lights. After a night in the bubble, this is a different way to chase them: Rangá has its own observatory and offers an aurora wake-up call, so you can sleep and still be woken if the sky lights up. Settle in for dinner, keep an eye on the forecast, and let reception know you'd like the call.

Day 4Going back homeReykjadalur Hot Spring Valley → Keflavik Airport
14
Attraction

Reykjadalur Hot Spring Valley (Hveragerði)

This is optional depending on your departure time from Keflavik Airport. It's a relaxed ~2¼-hour drive from Rangá to the airport, so there's room for one last stop if your flight allows. In Hveragerði, the Reykjadalur valley is a short uphill hike to a naturally hot river you can bathe in — a fitting Icelandic goodbye. Short on time? A final wander through Reykjavík works just as well.

15
Attraction

Keflavik Airport

Continue west to Keflavík to drop your rental car and fly home. Give yourself a comfortable buffer — it's about 2¼ hours from Rangá without stops — and build in extra time if you've paused along the way.
